Tekelec Enhances T6000 VoIP Application Server and SoftPhone for Video Services
Morrisville, N.C., and San Jose, Calif. — March 14, 2006 — Today at the VON Spring conference, Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC) introduced several enhancements to the Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server and introduced the session initiation protocol (SIP)-based Tekelec Video SoftPhone to meet the growing demand for multimedia video services. Tekelec is demonstrating Tekelec 6000 enhancements and the Video SoftPhone in booth #1019.
Customer demand for the Tekelec 6000 continues to increase. In 2005, the Tekelec 6000 customer base increased by 84 percent while the number of sold subscriber licensees increased by 90 percent. With the release of Tekelec 6000 R5.6.2, Tekelec has added end user and operator features to support the evolution from voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) to multimedia over IP, enabling mobile IMS-based services and simplifying management and customer care. These features, along with the Tekelec 6000’s support for fixed mobile convergence (FMC) and legacy hosted services, enable carriers to cost-effectively transition to IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) networks while delivering next-generation services today.
About the Tekelec 6000 R5.6.2
Led by requests from operators and their subscribers, Tekelec has expanded the wide range of features and capabilities in its market-leading VoIP Application Server, including:
- Support for Multimedia: Tekelec has introduced video to the SIP-based Tekelec SoftPhone that integrates with the Tekelec 6000 Web Portal and Voice Assistant for easy-to-use multimedia communications. In addition, Tekelec now is offering the InnoMedia 5531 video desk phone.
- More SIP Devices: Three new devices expand the more than 40 devices approved for use with the Tekelec 6000: the Linksys SPA-941 two- and four-line phones and the InnoMedia 3308 SIP phone.
- End-user Enhancements: Flexible and intelligent Voice Mail allows mailbox sharing between multiple users’ phones and Web Portals, including shared message-waiting indication and notification via Web Portal and voice mail announcements when a mailbox is full. More language choices with support for six languages natively, now including Mandarin Chinese. E911 enhancements let emergency service operators reconnect with emergency service callers while bypassing call-rejection features.
- New Trunking Gateway: The new Tekelec 8200 supports up to 16 T1 or E1 ports and joins more than 12 gateways that operate with the Tekelec 6000, including the Tekelec 9000 Distributed Switching Solution and Tekelec 7000 Class 5 Packet Switch.
- IMS-compliant Billing: Adds the P-mobile number and P-charging vector to allow for better recording and management of billing records across multiple IMS-based platforms.
- Additional Features for Operators and Resellers: Temporary Service Suspend lets operators suspend service, address billing issues and limit use in areas where emergency services are not provided. T.38 Fax Relay brings more reliable and higher throughput fax service.
